The ever increasing demand for timber and timber products throughout the
world cannot be met without substantial development of planted forest. To ensure our
competitiveness in the global market, green passport through the reforestation project and
certification is necessary.
In accordance with the
forest sustainable management as accorded by ITTO in 2000, development of the project is
carried out under the enrichment planting method whereby very minimal disturbance on the
ground is affected during the site development while in the same time maintaining the
vigour and biodiversity of the remnants forest.
Current main planting are with local fast growing species Anthocephalus chinensis (kelempayan) and exotic Eucalyptus deglupta (Kamerere) while screening of other fast growing indigenous and exotic timber species are on going as the project goes. The planting of quality
planting materials from the superior mother trees as well as from the improved genetic
provenances will produce more vigour plantation, higher resistant to pests and diseases
and uniform in their growth and yields which will ensure a more sustainable and perpetual
wood supply in the future.
